hi, im Cloudnine. i played a game or two with some of you guys a couple years back, and now i play with the hunterdon team because they're much closer to my home than philly. i was wondering if any of you guys know any good mock silencers (14mm thread) i could fill with foam and if you know the proper method to making them work well. thanks

Cloud ....I just got a TM VSR G-Spec ...and they take the foam out of the silencer by law. I just used a thin sanding sponge cut to fit as a roll inside the suppressor tube. It deadens the "Pop" noise of an empty silencer and does reduce noise compared to using it without. It's a thin sponge ..maybe 1/4 inch ....but it dampens the noise nicely. I could probably fit another roll of it inside and still have plenty of clearance for the rounds to pass thru unhindered.

thanks greg. still wish i could snipe with you. and still trying to find a ghillie style that works for me. made a full ghillie suit and realized about a month ago that it was useless. cool looking nonetheless. since i upgraded the spring/piston on the utg mk96, it's a lot louder, so a silencer would be useful. i remember Rapid's MP5. that was great. also, im in the process of filling the body with foam to quiet the rattle. spring's not really too strong for the trigger, it only broke because i left it cocked overnight, one day, by accident

I haven't been out much ....the new job has me working Saturdays and I've had obligations on Sundays ....it totally sucks not getting out to the field. I feel your pain on the ghillie ...mine still sits packed in the same bag for the last 3 years. Airsoft is way too mobile for a ghillie. Is the UTG threaded for a barrel extension/silencer? Not sure if they make unthreaded silencer tubes. I gave up on the L96 platform ...way too heavy and long. I didn't want to have to repair another junker gun so I got the TM. It's super light and compact ...I like it's mobility/portability. It slings away nicely giving me the option to tote a secondary ....I so want a Thompson.

There are three things you can do to make your spring sniper rifle quieter.
1. Swap the spring for a weaker one. You said that you just upgraded your spring, so you aren't going to want to hear it, but a lower-powered spring will make the gun quieter.
2. Dampen the muzzle pop. A foam-filled silencer will do it. An empty one will make it louder so don't bother. If you can't fill it with foam, a sponge, loose insulation, wool socks... just about anything sound-dampening will do.
3. Dampen the piston impact. This is trickier and requires internal modifications that can possibly wreck your gun, so get somebody who knows what they're doing to do it.
Just kidding about the socks, by the way... for the love of God, don't put socks in your silencer.
Also of note: pool noodles, although they are foam, do not count as silencers.

Seeing how you got the silencer question asked (thanks for the tips guys), I'd like to comment on the Ghillie. I once saw someone with a ghillie-shroud that they wore on their shoulders and head and nothing else. Worked like a charm when they were low to the ground. Maybe you could try making something like that?

Nah. It was more like just the head and little bit extended down the back. There were no sleeves. I can't remember his name, but one of the HB guys had it.
