I downloaded a demo version of Sniper Elite ...an old FPS game ...and since I suck at video games in general it's all I really need. Anyone ever play this? I have to say it's quite the awesome game for people who like to take their time an rack up the most points possible per level.
Graphics are what you'd expect from a 6 year old game ...but the game play is phenomenal. It's WW2 based and the player is an American OSS sniper disguised as a German soldier and tasked with several missions based on the end of the war struggle between German and Russian forces. You have "allies" that are part of the game but don't really participate in anything so you the player are basically alone.
It's really the best sniper game I've played ...you have to compensate for heartbeat and gravity ...it has a camouflage meter to keep yourself hidden that effects detection ...and there's many different weapons and tools to use. Since I suck in general at games, I've meticulously played level one over and over until I learned all the terrain, game triggers, and unique tricks and whatnot to overtake the enemy.
It's really got some nice options like blowing tanks up with gas cap hits or TNT, tripwire grenades for pursuits in which you have to carry wounded, searching of dead or wounded enemy for supplies and dogtags, ability to wound enemy and their companions come to help them giving you another target, and great long range shooting situations.
There's about 30 enemy and three tanks in the first level and it's certainly no gimme. The enemy snipers stalk you ...the tanks shoot at you while battling each other ...the enemy hides in buildings and on rooftops ...and they actively pursue you the whole time. The stalking snipers are brutal and very hard to find making it quite the challenge.
The game scores you on long range shots, head shots, moving target kills, double and triple kills, covert kills, hits taken, cumulative accuracy, and remote detonation kills. My average score for level one has been about 3500. One incredibly lucky game I scored 6948 ....I got all three tanks in one long range shot. They were close to each other and all exploded plus 3 enemy soldiers standing nearby giving me a double triple covert kill with one round....I had 10 long range headshots ...18 headshots in total ...2 remote detonation kills ...900 (out of 1000) in hits taken points ...and 600 points for accuracy rating (used a PPSH SMG for some kills which is very inaccurate).
I highly recommend the game for players who like slow and steady meticulous play as opposed to running through the levels as fast as possible. It has great sniper oriented features like scope magnification adjustment and the concealment feature. It's amazing for a free demo ...and I haven't even gotten to master the second level yet.
