It was a windy first day in Syria on October the 15th, 2011. The Syrian Liberation Front (SLF) had taken 2 hostages on a school bus in the southeastern hill and had guards heavily fortified throughout the area.
The United Nations Special Forces (UNSF) had established a base a few clicks west and had taken a few squads up the road towards the hedgerows. Valiantly, they kept throwing force after force towards the hill, but ultimately stopped by SLF forces. The UNSF team never found the strategically placed IEDs on the roadside. Unfortunately only one of them went off, most likely due to transport malfunction.
As the day progressed, both teams found the secret weapons cache and fought hard to acquire it. At the end of the first day, the SLF team had over run the UNSF team both at their primary base, and at the weapons cache ultimately solidifying their forward operating base for the second day.
The second day went the same way for the SLF, taking the UNSF base and using the newly acquired FOB for strategic reinforcement. The UNSF secondary base on the hill was a little harder to take, but they had some great scouts plant two small sticky bombs on a building and a vehicle winning the second day.
Thank you to all who participated. I’ll have the final numbers for the event from Lee in the afternoon.
